Trying to get rid of dust in your home

No one likes dust. It’s not only ugly, but it can also hurt your eyes, throat, and skin. It’s especially bad for people with allergies, asthma, or lung problems because it can make it hard to breathe at times.

Dust is easy to get rid of, but it comes back quickly. People often find that they have to dust their homes several times a week just to keep up. There is hope, though.

Even though you might not be able to get rid of all the dust in your home, there are things you can do to make it spread much less. As people who clean air ducts, purify the air, and clean dryer vents in both businesses and homes, we know a few things about what makes dust and what can be done to stop it.

Here are some tips from experts.

Switch out your air filter.

The furnace or HVAC system in your home has a filter that catches dust, dirt, and other particles. This not only keeps the air in your home cleaner, but it also keeps your heating and cooling systems safe. At least every 90 days, you should change the air filter in your furnace or HVAC system. Some people may have to do it more often.

Even though it’s easy to do, changing the filter has a big effect on the quality of the air and how well the system works.

Use microfiber rags.

People don’t always use the best tools to clean dust off of things. Most dust rags and feather dusters just move dust around instead of getting rid of it. Most aerosol dust sprays have toxic chemicals in them that can be bad for your health.

A better idea is to wear clothes made of microfiber.

Microfiber cloths are different from rags and feather dusters in that they are made to attract and pick up dust. They are soft, so they won’t scratch anything, and it’s easy to clean them when you’re done. Switch to microfiber if you really want to get rid of dust from surfaces.

Get an Air Purifier

Unlike candles, plug-ins, and aerosol sprays, air purifiers really do make the air cleaner. Air purifiers don’t add scented (and possibly dangerous) particles to the air in your home. Instead, they remove particles, leaving the air clean and fresh. This makes your home smell better and the air feel lighter, and it also cuts down on dust and allergens.

Clean out your air vents.

The air ducts in your home are what filter the air and move it through your home. But over time, dust builds up in your air ducts just like it does on every other surface in your home. This can cause more dust and other particles to float around in the air in your home.

If you’ve done all of the above and there’s still dust everywhere, it might be time to check your air ducts.

Cleaning your air ducts is good for more than just getting rid of dust. It can also make heating and cooling work better, get rid of pests, and do other things. The air ducts in your home can hide a lot of things. The only way to know for sure is to have them checked out by a professional.
